About Lewis

I am a Professor Emeritus in the English Department at Kent State University. I received the Distinguished Scholar Award several years ago for my writing and research. At various times, I have been a guest professor, exchange professor, research professor, and a Fulbright professor in Italy, Germany, China, Japan, Norway, and Israel. In these countries I have taught courses ranging from seminars in literature, to speaking English, to composition. At present, I teach part-time at Kent.

I have published a number of articles and several books. At present, I review books for Phi Beta Kappa's electronic newsletter.

I have taught for close to 48 years in universities and colleges. I am flexible when it comes to the level and subject needed to be studied.

If you have difficulties writing, reading, or speaking, please do contact me so that we can work out an individualized program. We will meet at my office in the university.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
