I enjoy working with young elementary children who need extra support learning the basic skills of reading, writing, math and science. I believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience that inspires children to become lifelong learners. To increase a child’s desire to learn, I provide fun activities that relate to the child's interest or daily life that supports academic development. All children learn differently and at different rates. To meet individual learning styles I provide assorted activities that include games, worksheets and hands-on experiences.
ESL For Young Children and Families:
My training and experiences include developmentally appropriate practices for working with children and families where English is a second language. There are many challenges that new English speakers face in their everyday lives. I provide fun and helpful lessons that will increase correct pronunciation of words, increase vocabulary, and provide helpful tips for improving everyday conversational skills.
Self esteem and emotional development are very important in a child's ability to achieve academic success. To support this, I give each child my fullest attention and provide positive feed back during each session.
I have over ten years of experience working with children in educational environments. This includes providing presentations to early childhood educators, working with CCP students and serving as a committee member of the WCC Early Childhood Professional Advisory Board.

Michele is working with my daughter who is in first grade. She makes each lesson engaging and really gets my daughter excited about learning. It is fun to be a part of the lesson each week and to see my daughter's face light up as she tastes success with vocabulary and reading.
My son has a learning disability which affects his ability to take in, process, and then use information. He has plenty bouncing around in that mind of his but can't quite seem to use it effectively. Michele's investment has already made a big difference and in one week I've seen marked and obvious improvement in his ability to think through, organize, and communicate what Michele is working on with him. Her creativity and skill at asking good questions draws my son in and motivates him to learn and do well. It's been awesome!
Michele has seen my son for only a short few months and already he has improved tremendously in math and reading.
She was able to quickly identify my sons needs and identify the best way to teach him. I had interviewed several tutors before I hired Michele and all of the other tutors just wanted him to read out of a book or work with a program on the computer and basically just doing things I can do at home, that was definitely NOT what I was looking for. I wanted someone who would teach my son in a way he would learn as not all children learn the same way. Michele really knew how to cater her tutoring to my sons needs and in the process she also taught us new ways to help my son. Michele has really been able to make my special needs son feel good about himself and school work again. I have never met anyone who is so dedicated to a child learning and to a family as she is. Please know this review can’t possibly express the gratitude I have for her and all that she has done. If you are considering Michele for a tutor and have any questions, please ask her for my number and I can share more of my experience with you.
Michele is a wonderful tutor that really has a way with children. During 1st grade my 7 year old had some difficulty in school with writing. We worked with him, but finally agreed a tutor might be more of a help than mom and dad. I was so impressed with the activities she used to help him write his letter correctly. They were simple things that made perfect sense in helping him and he got it. I wondered why his teacher didn’t give us something like this. My son is left-handed and she spotted things right away that were giving him trouble because he is left-handed. Again, I wish his teacher noticed this might have been contributing to his poor writing skills. Michele made and left personalized fun sheets with us for him to continue practicing. He starts 2nd grade next week and we are excited to see his improvement. Michele made a big difference even with only a few visits. We will continue to work with Michele when we have the need. We hope we don't, but is it nice to know where to go if we do
She has been really great with my daughter. My daughter seems to really pick up things with Michele that she usually has trouble with when working with her actual teachers! Very flexible as well!
Michele "hit the nail on the head" her response to my request for a tutor was just what I was hoping for. Even though by daughter was getting B's on her report card, she lacked focus, organizational skill, and confidence.
Her teachers say she "asks too many questions" . Our tutor Michele, showed us that her lack of confidence was making her ask more, fear of failing. That is exactly what our daughter told us. She was afraid of failing!!
My daughter lights up when she knows Michele is coming after school. This is wonderful to see her excited to learn.
Michele is great with her and she make learning fun and easy!!!
Michele is such a great teacher. My 1st grade son was having a hard time since we had moved in here from Korea. He could barely speak English but hated studying. I didn't want to push him to learn English in a boring or painful way. What I wanted was that my son could enjoy learning, including English. So I looked into lots of teachers through the internet and found her. She was just like what I expected. She knows well how to handle and lead kids. My son is always looking forward to working with her with full of curiosity.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
