I have over three years of experience teaching reading to struggling students. I have taught students in 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade. I have taught students who were reading at-grade level, above grade level and as much as 4 grade levels below their current grade. I will be on summer break soon and I want to help students continue their education outside of the classroom. Unfortunately, many students do not pick up a book or writing utensil during their summer break which can set some kids back as much as one grade level. The great part about private tutoring is that we can do it in a more relaxed and less rigid environment then the traditional classroom.
I enjoy teaching students the joy that can come from reading. Reading is often taught using boring textbooks and worksheets. I want to teach students reading can be fun, if given the right tools. After students are taught to love reading then reading from any medium will be easier. I also believe students' reading comprehension will be higher when they are given the tools, one-on-one support and confidence. Reading is not just trying to meet the common core standard it is a life long skill that must be nurtured. Writing can also be more fun when students are allowed to express themselves outside of answering extended response questions. The lost art of writing should be taught with patience and creativity not just how to find the parts of speech.
I have taught students from all backgrounds and with all abilities. I design lessons around your learning style and abilities so English will be fun. I help students realize their full potential and give them the confidence to succeed in the classroom.
If reading and writing seem more like a boring task teachers and adults make you complete. If reading and writing any grade level work is "just to hard". Then contact me today to learn how I can make it fun again. I have over three years of experience teaching reading to struggling students. I have taught students in 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
