Hello, my name is Miss Deb. I am currently an Instructor at Antonelli College in Hospitality Arts. I have been teaching at the college level for three years, prior to this I spent my time working on a career in Hospitality. The reason for my interest is simple, one of the classes I teach at Antonelli is Developmental Math which includes everything from counting through fractions and decimals. I have been saddened at the number of adults who have become so afraid of math they stay away from it altogether. I am hoping that by reaching out to the younger populations, I can help them develop an understanding of the subject. My job is not to make them mathematicians, but lessen the fear and embarrassment they have developed so that once they become young adults, they are not behind and can enter college without having to take an extra developmental course.
My style is somewhat different as I was not good in math class and my teachers and peers made me feel stupid. Once I got to college, I gained an appreciation for the subject by understanding that math is like learning a new language. Once you understand what the words mean, it is much easier to then understand what the problem is asking for. Another thing I have learned is that some students do get the right answers to the problems, but their teachers tell them they are wrong because they did not get to the answer in a traditional way. I have also listed Developmental Science as a subject due to the fact I worked with 5th and 6th graders in an outdoor education/living history program in my youth. I have a solid understanding of all the sciences at that level. I look forward to meeting you (or your child) and helping them understand the world around them. Hello, my name is Miss Deb. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
