KY/Morehead State Univ. Morehead, KY (Accounting)
I love business and enjoy talking to people about business and how better to understand it. My specialty is accounting. Accounting is one of the basic concepts that must be understood in order to evaluate the current value and potential value of a business. Once a person understands how the accounting for a business works you can then start to analyze the results for making informed decisions on how to run it.
I also love learning no matter what the topic. I enjoy giving students the benefit of my experience as well as the technical knowledge to reach the level of understanding in accounting that they need. All through my career I have had the opportunity to train staff accountants as well as those who are moving beyond that level, even to the point of training my replacement.
I feel it is important that a student understand why an accounting concept is done the way it is. If it is only learned mechanically, the first time something appears that's different from the norm, the student will be lost. I led teams from all departments (sales, maintenance, IT, customer service and labor) to grow revenue through pricing improvements as well as cost savings in our major expense categories. This resulted in a pre-tax profit improvement of nearly 10% of revenue.
My background in accounting is extensive. I am a CPA and was a partner in a regional CPA firm where I dealt with many different businesses. I left public accounting for a position in industry. That company was later purchased by a public company in the waste industry where I attained the position of Director of Financial Control & Analysis for Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. My experience includes budgeting, analysis, projections and building teams for bottom line improvements. I am a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
I can help you with any level of accounting normally needed to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in the subject. I like to help people and would take pride in helping you reach your goals. While I am patient I will make every effort to help you move at your best pace. I will assign homework as I deem necessary and will provide you with periodic assessments of your progress.
