I've been an artist my entire life, with a special love for drawing and painting. My work experience includes graphic design and I've been an art teacher in the Parma Schools since 2001. I truly enjoy seeing students discover their own potential and love for art, which is especially possible in a small group or with individual instruction. I've given private lessons to all ages, beginning at 5 years old, and I teach small group art classes for adults. I offer positive, encouraging instruction for my students while challenging them to stretch their abilities.
I enjoy many types of media including oils, acrylics, colored pencils, pencil, and pen and ink. I've had some training in photography and have done some professional work. Before I became a teacher I was a graphic designer, and my positions included working on internet greeting cards for American Greetings, newspaper ads for Sun Newspapers and catalog design. My first undergraduate degree was in art history and both my second Bachelor's degree and my Masters degrees were in Art Education.
My goal is for my students to be completely satisfied with their lessons so I will consult with them about their interests and goals, as well as their preferred subject matter. Suggestions and feedback from parents/students are always welcome and I will consult with my clients on a regular basis to assess my students' progress. I am flexible with my hours, so while I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy I am willing to reschedule make-up lessons. To achieve the best results I prefer to meet in a quiet, uninterrupted location such as the library or my home, but I am also open to other locations. The best scenario will provide a separate work space with a table and sink access (if painting). I am happy to offer guidance on supply and materials purchases.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and helping you achieve your personal artistic goals! I've been an artist my entire life, with a special love for drawing and painting. Nancy was able to quickly help me understand shading concepts and how to apply them to different shapes and objects. She was open to discussing my exact needs and helping me to understand how to advance my skills in those areas.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've been an artist my entire life and drawing is my specialty. I've taught drawing classes to children and adults of all ages and I'm currently a full-time art teacher in a public school. I've sold some of my work and I draw portraits, landscapes and house portraits.
Graphic Design was my minor from my first Bachelor's Degree. I worked full time for Sun Newspapers and American Greetings for a few years. I've also freelanced in graphic design for many years.
As an artist for my entire life, painting is something I've done since my school years. I took several painting classes in college and have painted landscapes and florals for many years. I teach children and adults in painting, and as an art teacher for grades K-4, I teach painting lessons often.
