My name is Vicki B. and I have been a teacher for 15 years, all of them in first grade. Currently I am working with Reading Recovery students, a one-on-one program for the lowest achieving first graders. I am a certified teacher for Reading Recovery and also have my reading certification K-12. I am also Wilson Language trained. Can you tell I love to teach reading? I can also include phonics, comprehension, writing, spelling and vocabulary as needed.
I work with students that have ADD and ADHD and some mild autism. I have many techniques in my tool bag of tricks to help these kiddos learn to read and write. I can help not only first graders but older children as well.
I inject humor into our lessons and try to have fun while we learn. I take a personal interest in your child and try to select reading books that are not only reading level appropriate, but also appeal to their interest.
I am also available to tutor other elementary subjects such as social studies and science. My name is Vicki B. and I have been a teacher for 15 years, all of them in first grade. She is a great tutor. Very patient and you can tell she loves what she does. My daughter is excited about her next tutoring lesson next week!
I see improvement in my daughter's reading skills after each session. I am so pleased with the way tutoring is going because my daughter's confidence has been boosted in such a short time.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a teacher for 15 years. I currently teach a number of students that are on medication for ADHD/ADD or are undiagnosed for this condition. I have taken extra classes to learn how to get these students to learn how to focus more for themselves and how to change my teaching style to accommodate their needs. I have learned how to structure lessons differently and provide a less stimulating environment.
I have my certification in elementary education K-8. I have taught first grade for 10 years in public school. This would include science, social studies, math and language arts. I also taught a summer enrichment program for 4 years for multiple elementary grades.
Our district has been using the Wilson Fundations Method for Phonics. I have been trained in both Kindergarten and first grade and have taught both grade levels. We have used this method for the past 4 years. Also, as a Title One reading teaching, my primary focus is on learning the letter sounds and applying this during oral reading.
I have taught swim lessons since I was 14 years old. I started teaching preschoolers and children. I got my Water Safety Instructor and taught lifesaving and advanced water safety to adults and teenagers. I have taught all ages from 2 years old to 72 years old. I love to swim and I love to teach.
