I currently work as a Reading Specialist with grades K-2 but I am certified as a reading specialist for grades K-9. I have taught or tutored grades K-8. I absolutely love my job in the public school system but am looking at other opportunities so that I can work from home. My specialty is working with struggling readers. I am currently writing a book outlining the steps I take to help a students grow quickly in their reading ability. If you have a struggling reader I encourage you to contact me. There is hope.
At the first session, I will assess your child's reading ability. We will start instruction based on your child's individual needs. Often, struggling readers have gaps, or key concepts that they have missed, in their learning. When these gaps are identified, and instruction is tailored to a child's specific needs, their learning increases rapidly. As tutoring continues, your child will be reassessed regularly to direct instruction and to allow the child (and parent) to see their growth and celebrate their successes. Reading can be very frustrating for many kids...and their parents. It doesn't have to be. If you have a child who is struggling I would love to help! Reading can be fun, especially when your experience with it is one success after another. This is what happens with my students and I know it can happen with your child too! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
