About Miranda

I am a young college student who loves to learn and loves to help others. I'm dedicated to my studies, and excel in English specifically. I am a junior at Wright State University and am majoring in Marketing. I have a 3.9 GPA and am involved in the university's Honors program, Emerging Marketing Leaders program, Dean's Student Advisory Board for the Raj Soin College of Business, and play competitive sand and club volleyball. At Wright State, I work as the school's Social Media Coordinator, creating content for all the official WSU pages.

My experience in tutoring dates back to when I was in middle school. In 8th grade, I became the grade's unofficial tutor and somehow I ended up proofreading everyone's paper in exchange for bubble gum, the best form of currency for 8th graders obviously. In high school, I helped out fellow students officially with sanctioned hours and locations. Each student I worked with saw improved grades and test scores in English. In my spare time, I also helped out elementary school children at my former grade school with reading, social studies, and basic math. My favorite part of tutoring was watching the moment a student understood what was happening. I succeed in English, but upper level math was never my strong suit. I was the one being tutored for a while in math, and I remember suddenly understanding and feeling so relieved. To see that relief on other students' faces is rewarding, because it is one less thing young students have to stress about.

Since I've been on both ends of tutoring, I've found what works best for most all students. I try to be welcoming and inviting and make the session feel like friends discussing homework and studying rather than the student nervous about making errors or not feeling prepared. Constantly, I am looking for ways to improve myself and how I help others.

I have received A's in every English course I've ever taken and excelled in both reading and writing. In 4th grade, I was reading at a high school level. My average reading speed is about 650 words per minute with 90% comprehension. The average speed is around 200 words per minute with 60% comprehension. On my ACT, I received a perfect score (36) in Reading and a 34 in English. Over the years, I've won around 30 writing awards and had my works, both professional and creative, published in around 20 publications.

My rates are negotiable, I am simply a college student with a passion who wants to help others. For location, I am always wiling to travel or meet in a public place or the student's own home. Online tutoring is 100% possible with me, I'm pretty tech savvy and can proofread papers and communicate that way if you or your student prefer.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you or your child in the future! (And not being paid in bubble gum anymore is nice too).

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
