Wright State University (Music - piano, organ)
I began piano lessons when I was 5 years old, and my love of the piano and teaching piano only increases with time. I have a Bachelor of Music degree, Magna Cum Laude, with concentration in piano and organ. I have taught piano lessons for about 15 years, mostly at the Columbus Conservatory of Piano. I moved back to Springfield, OH about a year ago, and teach students in Fairborn, OH.
I am also the music director at a Fairborn church. I have taught students of all ages and levels of experience. Piano is my passion and I hope it will become yours also. Today, 13 June, was my fifth or sixth lesson. I’ve started from ground zero. I’ve learned a tremendous amount for a person who has very little musical talent. We started with the very basics and have progressed slowly from there. I couldn’t have told you a quarter note from a whole note let alone what number of beats each note gets. He showed me the trick in learning each note on the staffs. He has been very patient, especially my playing with both hands (not as easy as you think). His vast knowledge shows during each lesson as he explains new things to me. Today we covered the Bass Clef Notes G and F. Of course, you must do your part in studying the lesson book and practice, practice. I’m looking forward to learning more.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
