The College of Wooster (Spanish)
Hi, I’m Emily! My full-time job is in Marketing, but I have a B.S. Degree in Spanish and Communication Studies and I have tutored from the elementary through the college level. I am accessible and patient, and I seek inventive ways to get tough concepts to ‘click’ for the student. I like to make my sessions fun while keeping the focus on the student’s goals and definition of success.
I am currently working to become certified in TESOL (ESL, TEFL, etc. all fall under this name), and in the meantime I am comfortable working with students for whom English is a second language, but they have some proficiency and need to refine their skills.
I also offer general elementary level tutoring; reading, writing, vocabulary and basic Spanish are my areas of most expertise. However, I am more than happy to help a student with other subjects. Whenever possible, I would like to talk with the parent/guardian of the student to go over specific needs and goals, challenges, learning style, and materials to be used. It is also very helpful to know how the student’s school and teacher(s) approach subjects, i.e. teaching style, testing, and grading.
I do not currently provide learning materials such as books, workbooks or the like, but I do enjoy bringing special creative projects to complement tutoring at times, if permissible!
I work normal business hours, so my availability lies in early mornings, evenings and weekends. I prefer to meet in a public place such as a library.
A little more about me: I grew up in the Cleveland area; I have a dog, a cat and four hens; I enjoy hiking, horseback riding, cooking and reading.
Reading and vocabulary are my natural strengths, and I enjoy helping people develop their own methods of learning and retaining in these areas.
I have a B.S. In Spanish from The College of Wooster, and I have tutored both elementary and college students.
I have tutored elementary students intermittently since junior high. I have worked with students with learning disabilities, began teaching Spanish to a 9 year-old with no experience in the language, and helped my nephews (now 12 and 16!) with homework in all subjects over the years.
Please feel free to reach out to me with questions as you seek a tutor that is the right fit. I will never commit to a tutoring arrangement that I don't feel is the best fit for the student's needs! I look forward to working with more students this year. Hi, I’m Emily! My full-time job is in Marketing, but I have a B.S. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
