About Lisa

Teaching children and young adults is my passion. I am a certified teacher and have been teaching in a school for students with special needs for 7 years. I graduated cum laude, was voted outstanding senior in Middle Childhood Education as a senior in college, was a Tower of Light award finalist, graduated as part of the Honors program, and currently hold an active teaching license.

I have a Level 1 Wilson Reading System certification, which is an excellent program for students who are several grade levels below in reading, particularly those who have dyslexia or other learning disabilities. I love teaching reading and writing and can help students who are interested in improving their writing skills. I have taught and tutored students from kindergarten through college age, predominantly in reading and writing. I believe in tailoring my lessons to a student's individual learning needs, so I will administer some learning styles inventories during the first session. Practice is essential to the learning process, so I will assign homework to reinforce skills learned in tutoring sessions.

Time is valuable, so I do require advanced notice of cancellation at least three hours prior to the scheduled lesson. Sessions can be scheduled at a mutually convenient location.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to achieve your academic goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am a certified teacher with the state of Ohio. I have taught at a charter school specifically for students with ADHD and ADD for the past seven years. In my class, I teach social skills along with the curriculum. I have had training in crisis prevention, Brain Gyms, and behavior management in the classroom. Some of the strategies I specifically employ for students with ADD/ADHD are short group rotations, multimodal learning, kinesthetic activities, and student choice in activity or way we do the activity.
