Hello! I am excited about working with your child in the areas of language arts and the creative arts. I am an avid reader and writer and have written many short stories and films - some of these films have been featured in film festivals not only here in Columbus, but also in Colorado, Los Angeles, and South Africa.
Currently I teach an Introduction to Filmmaking course to home school students. This February I'll be adding an Advanced Filmmaking course to my schedule. I am also a Development Executive through the 168 Project, helping writers across the country improve their storytelling skills. I have also taught Sunday School to teenagers at my church and worked as a substitute teacher in the Plymouth-Canton school district in Michigan.
Everyone doesn't learn the same way. My job, as a tutor, is to discover the best way your son or daughter learns. I have twin daughters in the 6th grade - one excels in school and the other struggles. One needs to be challenged beyond the assignment and the other learns best through self-discovery of the material. Seeing them both succeed in their own ways is extremely gratifying.
I don't believe in teaching facts that can just be recited to pass a test. The best way to learn, I believe, is to teach. So, when a student can thoughtfully and confidently teach me (or others) what he or she has just been taught, I know I have succeeded.
What I enjoy most about teaching is making a difference in someone's life. I know that probably sounds cliche and, yes, most vocations yield a product or service that makes some sort of difference. But to experience those "lightbulb moments" - when you see they got it - is something they can build on, over and over again, making them better prepared for the 21st century challenges that lie ahead.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I work as a public speaker for Bradford School in Columbus, Ohio. I travel to high schools around the state giving life-skills presentations to the students. Not only does this give me the skill set to help others with public speaking, but one of the presentations I give is on public speaking/presentation skills. I am confident in my public speaking skills and can help others develop theirs.
I currently working freelance in video production in the Columbus area and part-time with G&P Productions, LLC. This is my fourth year teaching video production to homeschool students in co-ops around Columbus and, starting this fall, I will be teaching at the McConnell Arts Center in Worthington. My curriculum goes from story conception to editing and everything in between: screenplay writing, pre-production, set design, directing, cinematography, lighting, and sound design.
