Since then, I have worked with hundreds of different students of all ages, skill levels, learning abilities, and learning styles to help them achieve their musical goals. I teach piano, beginning guitar, voice, ukulele, music composition, music theory, and music technology.

I graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, with a Bachelor’s degree in both piano performance and music composition. I continued to study music composition at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where I received my Master’s degree in 2015 and my doctorate in 2018. In addition to my many years of private teaching experience, I also have three years of collegiate classroom level teaching experience. While I originally thought that I wanted to be a college professor, I quickly learned that I much prefer working one on one with students, and no matter how many times I have taught the basics with beginning students, it never gets old watching them progress right before my eyes!

I am well-educated, patient, and have experience working with people with disabilities such as autism, Down’s syndrome, and cerebral palsy.

I look forward to hearing from you! Let’s get started!

Composition (Music)

I have composed a variety of solo, chamber, and electronic works for both student and professional musicians. I have three years of collegiate teaching experience in electronic music composition. I have had performances of my work featured across the continental U.S. as well as internationally and have had the privilege of traveling to many of these places to hear my music performed.

Reading

I have worked with hundreds of different kids of all different ages, abilities, and skill level. Although the vast majority of them have been music students, I find that the process for teaching a student how to read and understand music is not all that different from the process for teaching a student how to read and understand words. It takes patience, it takes time, and it takes creativity. Every student learns differently and I am particularly good at adapting my teaching style to fit a student’s needs.

While my college/grad/post-grad education is in music, I also polished my writing skills along the way. Academic papers, program notes, dissertation proposals, grad school applications, and syllabi are just some examples of the many different types of writing I needed to master in order to complete my doctorate. Additionally, I am also a recently published author, and I am able to help you in both fiction and non-fiction writing.

I have been playing piano since the age of eight and teaching private lessons since the age of sixteen. I used to perform quite a bit before I realized that I much prefer working behind the scenes! I can teach classical music as well as popular music.

I am not classically trained on guitar. However I developed a passion for it in high school and spent hours teaching myself. I am comfortable teaching students to read both classical music notation and tabs, as well as standard chord charts.

According to my parents, I could sing before I could talk! Throughout grade school and high school I sang in various choirs and participated in musical theater. My voice is stylistically very versatile and I can teach classical, musical theater, and pop styles. Whatever you’re interested in, I can help you!

An absolute pleasure to have her as my daughters teacher. Extremely patient and kind. I am a college professor and I see a great teacher who makes my fairer feel excited and progress not even feeling any pressure. Thanks Marissa
