University of Dayton (AYA Education)
Hello all! My name is Emily. I am 23 years old, and a fairly recent graduate of the University of Dayton. While I was at the University of Dayton, I majored in Adolescent to Young Adult Education. My concentration was in Integrated Social Studies, meaning I studied everything from History to Political Science to Psychology. Although Social Studies was my subject matter of choice, I also work very well in the English/Language Arts area. I also participated in a lot of theater and speech/debate, so I'm also capable of giving great advice on public speaking.
After I graduated from UD, I chose not to go directly into classroom teaching. I now work for a software company, training our customers on how to use some of our complicated products. While I love my new career, I miss my students and being able to help people with their schoolwork. I love taking complicated topics, breaking them down to their smallest pieces, and watching students suddenly understand how those pieces fit together. I'm really looking forward to jumping back into the education arena by beginning to tutor on evenings and weekends!
For years I have participated in Theater as well as speech writing/delivery. I have stored up years worth of experience and knowledge on public speaking that I look forward to sharing with others. I am also a self proclaimed bookworm, with a deep passion for reading. I love sharing that passion with others and helping them discover a passion of their own.
As an Education major with a concentration in Integrated Social Studies in college, I studied a wide variety of topics. Within the subject of history, I studied everything from Ancient Indian history to Modern American History, and I loved it all! History is such a rich and diverse subject, that it never gets boring for me, and I love to try and make it come alive for others. I also studied a lot of Political Science, which centers a lot around governments and politics. Government is such an amazing subject to study, as it is so relevant in our daily lives. Not a day goes by that the government doesn't effect us in some way, and I love bringing that to the attention of my students!
Overall, I'm just a simple person with a passion for learning and helping others learn. I'm very much looking forward to beginning my career as a part time tutor in several subjects! Hello all! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
