About Laura

I am a state certified Special Education Teacher (K-12 SLD/ID) and have been since December of 1995. Since that time I have worked in Trotwood-Madison Schools in elementary, Middletown Schools in middle school, Dayton Public Schools at Franklin Montessori, at a charter school with elementary (k-6th), and have earned two Montessori credentials, Early Childhood (teaching 3-6 year olds) and Lower Elementary (teacher 6-9 year olds). I am currently a high school teacher at Dayton Business Technology High School. I love to teach. It is in my blood. I love working with kids and finding the best way to reach them through their learning style. I believe that it is important for me to be a life-long learner as well and to be willing to admit when I don't have the answer, but show a student how to find the right answer.

I enjoy finding different ways to teach concepts that kids struggle to learn. I have a lot of hands-on materials, games and techniques that can help make learning fun and easy. I am all about finding what a kid is interested in and tailoring the tutoring session to fit those needs. I like to also give techniques they can use during testing and times when they are stressed or frustrated and cannot work. It is my hope to help them see how they learn and what they need, so that in the future they can utilize those learning styles and techniques independently.

I have co-taught Algebra I this year and bring a wealth of power-point programs that are color coded to show the processes and steps. I also have a Montessori training background and bring alternative materials to help make the connection to the algebraic process.

K-12 Special Education License in working with students with Specific Learning Disabilities and Intellectual Disabilities. My training encompasses different ways to learn grammar, vocabulary and reading techniques to make you more successful.

I look forward to meeting and working with you! Learning can be fun and it can be easier. Work with me to find another way.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
