I have been a teacher in so many forms all my life. I was a paid tutor in college. I taught driver's education over a five year period. While attending seminary I taught elementary children as a substitute teacher. As a minister I taught various topics concerning religion and relationships. Naturally as a minister I also prepared sermons and various bulletins and brochures. As a Lt. Col. I taught cultural diversity and suicide prevention, plus I did counseling of troop members and individual's with issues.
It takes a great deal of understanding to discover the student problem that is the cause for a need to be tutored. When I had my private counseling practice, a senior high school student came to me. In our discussion I discovered that he never had his problems addressed. He was simply promoted to the next grade even though he actually failed every class. How sad it was that with help from someone who cared he could have actually passed his classes for real. I want to be that person that intervenes for a student in need and see that person move further into life with a higher degree of success.
When I tutor, I seek to establish a rapport with my student and seek what previous help was offered (if any) that did not seem to work. That is not to criticize. It is merely to know so that I don't plow the same field in the same way. The goal is success and the method must be to know the means that we can mutually use. There must be an agreement how to accomplish the student's ambition.
My intent is to be available in body and in attitude. Please give more than four hours notice to cancel a session. Each session charge is $60.00, not paid in cash. I am willing to reschedule sessions, but if there is an excess of cancellations there will be the need to discuss the likelihood for continued appointments. In short, I am ready, willing, and able. The rate for a group of 2-6 is $45.00 per person. For multiple subjects being tutored is $ 50.00 per hour.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a minister for many years and naturally had to know details of Scripture and how to study it. I have a college B.A. in religion that means I have official training in the Bible. I have a M.Div. in pastoral ministry which again means I have higher education in the Bible and how to train the congregation.
I have been speaking and preaching since I was 16 years old. That means I have 54 years of experience. I also took public speaking and preaching on a graduate level with professor critiques. It would be my pleasure to assist you with your school assignments. I have a personal library of over 800 some of which are textbooks on speaking in public.
As a writer, it is important that I have a mastery of reading skills. In college I took a course on how to read.
As a minister, I am compelled to know about world religions. In fact, I taught a course on this to my congregation because I believe everyone should know the differences to help them know why they believe in the own faith. As a college professor I taught world religions over the course of an entire term. I also explained differences, assigned term papers, and gave tests on world religions. As a military officer, I taught world religions and diversity.
