The University of Akron (History)
I am a recent graduate of The University of Akron. I have an upbeat attitude and a passion for History! Students and learners are often turned off by history because they deem it boring, but history doesn't have to be that way! My methods of learning history are to learn in a way that inspires students to ask questions and the way I teach will spur them on to a love of real history... Not the stuff they teach you in grade school! For example, if a student is learning about the American Revolution, I would encourage them to 1. Read a short summary of the conflict, 2. Encourage them to pick a side, 3. Act out or write a short pamphlet on why they chose that side. If he student were to choose the American Revolutionaries and create a pamphlet expressing their ideals. This method allows the student to interact with the history and not merely memorizes dates on a page. A good understanding of history allows a student to become a better citizen of the present world!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
