About Lori

Students find Chemistry and Algebra to be overwhelming because they must use past knowledge, logical thinking, and multi-step processes to solve problems that sometimes looks like a foreign language!

There Is Hope!

In my sessions, students focus on word problems by using tips to distinguish the knowns/unknowns in the problems while simultaneously reviewing math concepts.

I tutored public school students 10 years, community college students three years, earned my Master's in Science Education from Youngstown State University in 2010.

Although my teacher license is expired, my knowledge is relevant, and my encouragement is helpful.

Use me as your tutor. Your child can be successful!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Students find Algebra I challenging because it requires them to use multi-steps to complete a problem.

In the tutoring sessions, we review the multi-step processes, write directions for the steps, identify the steps that the student typically eliminates, and practice the process until the student demonstrates mastery.

As an experienced tutor, many students have found hope and success with my methods.

Algebra 2

During my sessions, students focus on understanding the step by step processes used to solve problems, review past math concepts, and practice their skills.

Chemistry

Students find Chemistry to be overwhelming because they must combine past math knowledge to word problems and fresh new Chemistry concepts.

There Is Hope!

As an experienced Chemistry tutor, I focus the students on word problems by identifying tips to distinguish the knowns/unknowns in the problems while simultaneously reviewing math concepts.

My experience ranges from a chemical technician in industry to several years as a tutor in public schools, community college, and even as a certified teacher.

Consider me as your tutor.

GED

Even as a young person, I found myself offering my peers help with their math homework or volunteering at the local library to teach adults how to read. It's no wonder I've been a tutor for the past ten years with local schools, community colleges, and tutoring services.

I've found that many students have the same problems when they're faced with math. Many times, their math knowledge is slightly foggy. They can't remember what they learned hours or years ago! I make math a procedure for those who feel comfortable following a set pattern, give analogies for those who need to hear ideas, use manipulatives on tactile learners, and I've even found that rhyming or poems have a place in tutoring sessions with certain students! Whatever your learning style, I seek to use it!

Consider me as you look for a tutor. I have the experience, education, and patience to help!

Physical Science

Students grasp Physical Science concepts when they observe the world around them. As a certified Physical Science teacher and seasoned tutor, I've found that students grasp the concepts as they verbalize their misconceptions and are challenged with phenomena that demonstrates an alternate view. I've worked with a variety of students and consider each child's learning strengths. Is your child a hands-on learner? I fortify their learning through simple hands-on-labs. Is your child a visual learner? We draw pictures and look at images that represent the scientific principles they study. There are many modes of learning. I seek to use their special learning styles to teach the subject. Your child can be successful! Consider me as you search for a tutor.

Prealgebra

Students benefit from watching seasoned problem solvers approach and question their problems. During the sessions, students review problem solving processes, write directions for the steps, identify the steps that the student typically eliminates, and practice the process until he/she demonstrates mastery.

As an experienced tutor, many students have found hope and success working with me.

Patient and thorough tutor

Lori was extremely prepared, thorough, and patient in her approach to teaching chemistry. She utilized different learning approaches as needed, and was compassionate and kind in her answering of questions. She even stayed later than decided to make sure I completely understood the material. I am very glad I met Lori and look forward to further sessions with her in the future.
