I am an English teacher at a charter school in downtown Columbus that serves a high percentage of disadvantaged and/or special needs students. I currently teach 9-12 grades, but I am certified in English Language Arts for 7-12 grades. I have a Bachelor's degree in English from The Ohio State University and a Master's in Education also from The Ohio State University.
I am looking for a part-time position where I can teach and help students in a smaller-scale setting than what I do during the day. My passion is teaching students how to communicate effectively and efficiently; reading and writing are fundamental to life beyond school. In my Master's program I learned that the key to student learning is engagement and I am committed to engaging my classroom and all students in effective English Language Arts curriculum.
I have two years experience as a certified teacher working with 9-12 grades and 4 additional years working in classrooms with students ranging from 6-12 grade. I am not only trained to teach learning strategies, reading comprehension and composition, but I also love working with students and tailoring education to individualized needs.
If you are looking for help in any ELA related subject, from middle school reading to college preparatory testing, I encourage you to contact me so that we can discuss scheduling lessons! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
