About Randall

COMPUTER HELP--
I'm a 30-year System Engineer experienced in networking, desktops, wireless communications, as well as hardware technologies such as servers, switches, backup, routers, etc. I use both Windows and Mac OS's.

Computers are supposed to make our lives easier, and in many ways they do. However, I've found that they are getting more and more complex to setup and manage for those who aren't tech-geeks, like me. Simply hooking up a printer, adding a backup device, or installing a wireless network can seem daunting at times.

With that, I am constantly being asked by my friends to assist them in getting their desktop, laptop, mobile device, or some aspect of their home/small business network configured and working correctly. I have years of experience of listening to end-users (you) explain your frustrations and needs and converting those frustrations into solutions that work for YOU. I'm also very good at training in all aspects of computers in a way and language that you understand, which many times is NOT the computer lingo us geeks speak in.

Allow me to be of service to you for any of your computer needs.

PHOTOGRAPHY TUTORING--
I am a freelance photographer specializing in architecture, nature, studio still-life, and landscape photography. I love using long exposures, off-camera flash and light-painting (painting objects with a flashlight in a darkened room) to achieve my results.

If I can be of assistance in tutoring you in all aspects of photography or Lightroom post-processing, please contact me. I take a special interest in beginners who have the passion but just need some direction, but I certainly welcome all levels of passionate photographers.

Adobe Lightroom,/Photoshop General Computer, Computer Networking (wireless and wired), Backup technologies

Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Camera General, Seeing Light, Dramatic Lighting

I have the experience and unique ability to take that experience and break it down so the end-user can understand. Contact me for an excellent experience.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

General Computer

I am well versed in all facets of computers including, desktop operating systems, hardware, servers, routers, firewalls, and applications for both Mac and PC.

I am a 30-years IT professional with certifications in: Computer Architecture and Programming, Systems Engineering, and RF (wireless) communications. I have been able to demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills as well as training for end users.

I have built PCs and installed them as stand-alone devices on home networks, small office networks and large networks spanning several states and retail locations. The networks include: workstations, printers, faxes, routers, WiFi Access Points and associated wiring.

I also have experience conducting numerous training sessions for end users teaching applications and computing devices.

Networking (Computer)

I have over 25 years experience in systems engineering including TCP/IP communications/applications, RF (WiFi) networking/communications, Lan/Wan/WiFi protocols, as well as wired and wireless site surveys.

I previously led a team that was responsible for site surveys, network wiring/communications, Wifi configuration, Windows workstation installation and configuration, and WAN communications back to home office servers. I oversaw the administration and troubleshooting of thirty-eight remote retail locations and their associated networks, hardware, and software across the Midwest and Eastern US.

In addition, I was lead engineer of our corporate office wired/wireless network, servers, hardware, workstations and attached peripherals.

I am well versed in installation, integration, troubleshooting and end-user training of both wired and wireless networks (including hardware), routers, workstations, printers, and applications.

I have the following certifications:
• TCP/IP Network Specialist Certification.
• System Engineer Group II Certification.
• RF Communications Certification.
• Windows Programming - Microsoft University.

Photography

I have been taking photographs for a little over 4 years after a several decades hiatus due to family, children and work. Twenty-five years ago I was a wedding and portrait photographer before entering the IT field full-time.

I am a very accomplished published photographer who eats, sleeps, and breaths photography.

I have conducted numerous training sessions in both a 1-on-1 and group setting for fellow photographers of all skill levels. These have primarily come as a result of my involvement with meetup.com and the personal relationships I've formed.

I am well versed in camera operations (manual to automatic), composition, lighting, exposure, off-camera flash, filters, long exposures, and post processing using Lightroom or Photoshop to name a few.

I am also very experienced in planing and leading group photography trips - from single day to multi-day outings.
