I have been a teacher since I was 14 years old. I started as a horse riding instructor where I taught children and adults how to safely ride horses. During this formative experience, I realized my love for teaching and instructing. As I entered college at Auburn University, I became a University sponsored peer tutor. I tutored other students in the subjects of Biology and Chemistry (and sometimes history). This provided me with extensive one-on-one tutoring experience. While at Auburn, I was also a Teaching Assistant for the Introductory Biology Labs, which provided me with classroom instruction, and truly led to my decision to pursue teaching as a career.
Upon graduating Auburn University with a Bachelor's degree in Zoology, I went on to John Carroll University in Cleveland to earn my Master's degree in Ecology. While at John Carroll, I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Human Anatomy and Physiology, Human Biology, and Organismal Biology. Further, after graduating with my Master's, I obtained an Adjunct Faculty position at Westminster College in Utah to teach Human Physiology to nursing students. I taught at Westminster College for 2 semesters, before I decided to pursue my Ph.D. at The Ohio State University.
My extensive teaching experiences from college and beyond have prepared me to teach a variety of Scientific subjects to a number of different age groups and academic levels. I can break down complicated ideas into more digestible chunks. I have a calm demeanor and plenty of patience. I pride myself in being able to explain the same concept in multiple ways until a student truly understands. I will adjust my teaching style to accommodate a student's best learning language.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
