My name is Charlene and I'm here to help you achieve your scholastic and personal goals. I have tutored and provided homework help for 15 years. As an undergraduate student at Indiana University, I worked in the Homework Help Center at the Monroe County Public Library. There, I helped children ages 6-16 to complete their homework assignments. I tutored the children in math, English, language arts, reading, science, etc. I also volunteered at a science museum where I completed activities with children to solve science questions.
I provided homework help to children ages 8-13 every Saturday morning at a church. The children brought their homework and I would help them to complete their assignments. Again, the range of subjects was vast, including history, English, grammar, reading, science, math, phonics, etc. Through the Cultural Center at my university, I was an ESL tutor. I worked with non-native English speakers to increase their conversational English skills. Lastly, as a youth teacher at my church, I taught children various lessons for 5 years. I created take-home lessons and homework assignments. All of my tutoring experiences have been rewarding. I've learned that patience and enthusiasm always produce higher grades.
I have what it takes to get you higher grades! I've tutored a countless amount of children. I've always been an avid reader and I have a good grasp on the English language. I have nieces and nephews who are in elementary school and middle school; I help them with their subjects every week. There has been great improvement. I will treat your child like my nieces and nephews. I like to use objects and/or story lines to help children grasp concepts. Getting the answer wrong is a part of the learning process. Let's work together to problem solve for the right answer! Hello!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently tutor a second-grade child in reading, helping her to recognize words and to focus on letter sounds. I am currently tutoring a 5th grader in mathematics. I have tutored in reading, math, science, phonics and word recognition. I also review handwriting and tutor children on proper writing technique.
I tutored individuals whose native tongue was not English. For one year, I met one on one with students and completed lessons with them. We also participated in plenty of conversational English.
As an undergraduate and graduate student, I created study plans for myself every week. I would gather all of my materials and write on a calendar to note when all items were due. Once all due dates were noted, I would note the subjects that needed attention first and work my way down. Prioritizing and being organized is the key, and this helped me to remain on task and to earn As, on my busiest semesters. I can also speak with people to determine the best study methods in order to learn and perform well on exams.
