The Ohio State University (Neuroscience)
My name is Nikki and I graduated from The Ohio State University in December of 2014 with a cumulative GPA of 3.5. I received a B.S in Neuroscience with minors in general business and general psychology. Currently, I work full time in corporate HR.
My experience and passion for teaching is a result of the Women in Math and Science organization I was a part of during my time at OSU. This organization served as a outreach program which sought to get young women interested in Math and Science. As the social chair, I worked with local school and girl scout troops to organize on campus events. As part of these events, I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with the girls, teaching them about different science topics which were related to the event theme. I was always left with a sense of satisfaction following these events which is why I had made the decision to continue helping young adults with their education. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was part of an outreach program during college where we would work with local girls (grades 4th - 6th) to teach them about different science topics and encourage them to pursue science degrees. I planned and taught the lessons/activities.
During high school, I was involved in a tutoring program which helped 8th graders who were in Pre-Algebra.
