Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I have managed both food service and retail establishments, with specific emphasis on inventory control, P&L and ways to control labor costs. I hold a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and currently operate a successful small business out of my home.

I approach business from a practical and pragmatic standpoint, focusing specifically on attracting and retaining new customers, the importance of having highly trained staff, and the need for effective CRM for quick, accurate and efficient operations.

Microsoft Outlook

I currently employ and synchronize 6 email accounts using MS Outlook on both my PC Based systems, as well as my school MAC running bootcamp plus my Iphone. The emails are arriving from POP3 as wel as IMAP servers, and my school account is synchronized via our Exchange Server.

I have extensive experience filter and routing emails into custom folders and can rapidly sort, search and categorize emails into effective chunks of information. The effective use of Spam and Junk filtering is critical to reducing the sheer volume of fraud, phishing attacks and general junk mail.

Microsoft Publisher

This is part of the MS Office Suite that I teach at my local high school. I use Publisher to expose the students to the basics and principle of graphic design. We are currently working on class projects to create flyers/programs and posters for school activities. My background in business and photography gives me an advantage, because design is all about using space and images appropriately and effectively. Composition, leading lines, points of emphasis, and the use of color or black and white elements all all play into the proper use of a simplified graphic design tool such as Publisher.

Microsoft Windows

As part of my video editing business, I build my own workstations and they are PC-based, primarily running either Win 7-64 or Win 8.1. I also troubleshoot Win XP problems for clients who run small businesses in the area, and I build and install my own LAN, and WLAN's for home networks.

I am very proficient in troubleshooting hardware and software related issues in the Windows environment and have frequently assisted clients with the installation of new software or upgrades of their existing operating systems, including cloning platter drives to move their operating systems to the faster SSD's.

Photography

I am an award winning photographer with 30 plus years of experience and currently teach digital photography at the high school level. I have also managed retail photo specialty stores in the Columbus area, and am an active shooter of sports, weddings and portrait photography.

In the studio setting, I instruct my students on the use of green screen technology to create interesting and visually stimulating photographs.

Saxophone

As a Music Education Major prior to pursuing a degree in business, I have completed the full instrumental course of study at The Ohio State University under Jim Hill, performing my Senior Recital in May of 1986 at Hughes Hall on the OSU Main Campus.

Since that time, I have played in reputable local jazz and church orchestras and I excel at music theory and sax technique. I also toured for about 3 and 1/2 years in a men's gospel quartet, and as a duet with my wife of 30 years and have been an active participant in the music programs at my church, including singing Background Vocals for acts such as Sandi Patty and Steve Green. I have also participated in recording sessions for independently produced Praise and Worship music under the Grace Brethren label.

Video Production

I am an accomplished video editor, with clients ranging from local government entities, to non-profit organizations, to authors. My most recent project for author Bill Salus has been shown worldwide, and I have also produced two television commercials, one of which was broadcast on Spike TV by my client.

My current specialty includes live video streaming and post-production and the creation of promotional trailers for short films.
