The George Washington University (Psychology, Sociolog)
Columbia University (Master's)
My name is Sari, and I am 28 years old. I am a recent transplant from New Jersey and have lived in Columbus since January of this year. I obtained my undergraduate degree from The George Washington University in Washington, DC in 2008 and subsequently obtained a Master's degree in Social Work from Columbia University in New York in 2010 (I acquired my LMSW license in March of 2011).
I am currently employed as a social worker for the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center, and I am seeking tutoring opportunities to take place from 6pm onward during the week and at any and all times during weekends. Although I majored and minored in psychology and sociology while obtaining my undergraduate degree, I am very passionate about English as a subject and have a vast array of knowledge and experience in providing education/instruction around English, Language Arts, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, reading, writing and proofreading, among several other disciplines. I am open to and have experience in working with students from elementary school age all the way up through high school age, as I prefer to keep my scope of practice as diverse as possible.
My tutoring approach is to structure the pace, nature and style of my instruction to each student's presenting needs and methods of learning, as each individual student builds knowledge and acquires skills differently and in his/her own unique manner. I implement games, incentive/reward-driven exercises, and various other enjoyable tactics to keep the learning environment as fun as possible for my students, and I am also always open to suggestions from the family or student directly regarding methods that may or may not have worked for that student in the past. Overall I would characterize my style as flexible and laid-back, while still maintaining structure and focus in all necessary areas.
Despite my specialties including the above-listed topics, I am ultimately flexible to consider a vast array of educational needs (i.e. elementary-level math, ESL, etc.) that may present themselves along the way. Please feel free to contact me with any questions whatsoever. Thank you very much for your time and consideration, and I look forward to potentially working with you in the near future!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
