About Monroe

I am a professional business consultant with about 25 years of work experience in the public and private sectors and two Master's Degrees. I have an MBA from Franklin University and an MS in Public Management and Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. This past year I returned to school once again to hone skills in areas I have studied previously. My recent studies include advanced Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint which I have also used in the business world. I took Algebra again because it will help me with software development which I am in process gaining a certificate. I have completed four Microsoft Certifications in the following areas: Software Development, Database, Networking, and Security.

My qualifications are strong based on my background and experience. But what's most important is my high degree of patience in working with students. Recently I assisted a college level student who needed help at the last minute and over a period of about ten hours we completed a marketing paper that was designed to take two weeks. His professor gave him a 98 on the paper even though he submitted it late because he came to me after it was due.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I possess an MBA from Franklin University with a 3.83 grade point average. I have worked for Nationwide Financial for four years and for Bank One now part of JP Morgan Chase for five years.

Marketing

As part of my MBA program at Franklin University, I took Marketing and International Marketing and received A's in both classes. Other classes required marketing skills as well. During my previous work history, I held three sales/marketing related positions over a period of 11 years.

Microsoft Access

This past spring, I took a rigorous intermediate Excel and Access class at Columbus State Community College. I received an A in the course. I have also used Access in the work place when I was an Internal Auditor for Ohio University.

Microsoft Excel

My qualifications to tutor in Excel include the following.

-Experience tutoring
-Coursework and projects in Excel at the following institutions: Carnegie Mellon University, Franklin University, Columbus State Community College
-Work experience with Excel at Nationwide Financial. Ohio University and other public and private sector organizations

Microsoft Windows

I possess two Master's Degrees and have worked with windows computers from Win 95 through Win 8. I currently troubleshoot computers as an IT consultant.

Microsoft Word

My Microsoft Word qualifications include many years of study and work and even integrating Excel and Word together in many documents.

Political Science

I possess an undergraduate degree in government and a Master's Degree in Public Management and Policy. I have passed Wyzant's online test in Government and Politics.

I have tutored in government and politics and I am currently teaching Business Law from a textbook that covers the structure of the US branches of government, the Constitution, the court system and many other aspects of the framework of the government and how they relate to Business Law.

In teaching Business law, I have used a variety of media for students who learn in different of ways. For example, I use video, PowerPoint, an overhead projector, in class debates and written summaries, multiple choice tests, and a written project that spans the length of the class term.

My experience includes volunteer work and paid assignments for The Democratic National Committee.

Public Speaking

I have taken undergraduate and graduate level coursework in public speaking. Most recently I have led group projects in classes such as Project Management and Systems Synthesis in which oral presentations were required weekly.

I recently read the 2015 Book "Storytelling With Data" by Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic. She, as a former employee of Google, and a few others have revolutionized the theories behind public speaking by advocating minimalist use of graphic media with presentations (Forget 3D Pie Charts she warns) and recommending ways to engage distracted conference listeners by telling a story with your data in every presentation !

I have delivered presentations for work as a Program Officer for a nonprofit as well as during employment with a Fortune 500 firm. Currently I lecture and elicit discussion in a group setting teaching Business Law.

SAT Math

I took the SAT exams and received a 92 percent, which helped me gain entrance to a prestigious East Coast boarding school. In addition, I have tutored in various subjects and enjoyed studying math and English throughout my life. Some of my personal favorite study guides are Strunk and White's "The Elements of Style" and Salkind's "The Contest Problem Book".
