University of Michigan (Philosophy)
It would be a great pleasure for me to be your personal English language tutor. I have taught conversational and business English in Korea, mainland China, and Taiwan. I have worked with adults and kids, business people and university students, individual and group. I have my own unique method of learning languages.
I have taught myself French and Mandarin Chinese. I will gladly share these methods with you as we begin our journey together to learn English. I have a flexible schedule, and will be happy to meet you at your place or in a public location such as a coffee shop. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and one in Linguistics, both from the University of Michigan. I scored in the upper 96th and 94th percentile in the analytical writing and verbal sections of the Graduate Records Examination (GRE).
If you have any other questions, just send me a message! I'm ready to start our lessons today!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BA in linguistics and philosophy from the University of Michigan (2010). During my attendance, I took linguistics courses which focused on how children learn language, and others which required me to work with at-risk children. I taught reading and writing to these children, totaling 50 hours of volunteer time.
After graduating I taught spoken and written English to elementary students at a private language school. It was here that I really learned how to balance fun and instruction in a way that holds students' interest.
Later, while living in Taiwan, I taught one-on-one English lessons to a child of 12 during a period of eight months. We worked primarily on reading, speaking, and listening, and would have continued had I not been obliged to return to the US.
I also worked as a sailing instructor for children between the ages of 7-17. This has added to the sum of my experience teaching children.
I submit these experiences in support of being approved in k-6th grade tutoring.
