I earned a BA in Linguistics from USC, and I'm currently a graduate student at OSU, studying Near Eastern Languages and Cultures (NELC). Languages I tutor include:

Learning is the most central part of my life, and I am always keen to help others accomplish learning as well. I provide tutoring in languages and math.

I earned a BA in Linguistics from USC, and I'm currently a graduate student at OSU, studying Near Eastern Languages and Cultures (NELC). Languages I tutor include:
- all areas of English: SAT/ACT reading and writing, grammar, proofreading, etc.
- French: I took several years of courses in grade school, and spent a year in France playing baseball
- Latin: several years of courses and an undergraduate Classics minor
- German: graduate level coursework, plus two years in Germany playing baseball
- Arabic
- Syriac

I also tutor in math. I scored a 5 on the AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics exams and a 780 on the SAT math section, and I can tutor any level of high school math, including algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry, and precalculus, as well as SAT/ACT math.

As a college and professional baseball player, I understand the difference between the process and result. In the classroom, just as on the baseball field, it is crucial to focus on the process, on learning a subject thoroughly, rather than on the result, like a test score. Yes, the test is important, but it is the learning that precedes it that leads to great test scores. I found the most success learning the subject, not just the test, and I teach in the same way. I also understand that everybody learns differently, and I do my best to accommodate the individual strengths of the student, always encouraging awareness of one's own learning strengths in the process.

I know I can help you learn and accomplish your goals, and I would love to make it happen!

French,

French

I took five years of French in grade school, from age 11-16, excelling at every level, as well as high school and college Latin and college Italian. I worked in college as a research assistant for a history professors digging through 1920s French newspapers, which sharpened my understanding of colloquial French. And most recently I spent the majority of 2012 in Rouen, France, playing semi-professional baseball and immersing myself in French language and culture. From all these experiences, I have a great understanding of the technical, classroom, grammar-based side of learning French, as well as the real-world, comprehension and communication side.
Latin,

Latin

I have studied Latin since 2005, with two formal years of study in high school and two more in college, as well as significant time studying on my own since then. My degree is in linguistics, and I specialize in historical linguistics, i.e. how languages change and interact over time. I use my knowledge of English, French, Italian, and Aramaic to inform my knowledge of Latin. To me, the real pleasure of studying Latin is connecting it to the modern world and modern languages, and I try to help my students make the same connections among whichever languages they already know, both for mnemonics and for simple curiosity.

In college, I was a Linguistics major, with a Classics minor that included learning Latin. Encouraging tutor

My daughter really liked her first lesson with Chris. He is great at challenging her with thoughtful questions and provides lots of encouragement. He also provided sports examples, which she liked since she is an athlete. She had a quiz yesterday and said she felt more confident going into the test after her session with Chris.

Great Tutor and Coach

I hear Chris encouraging my boy as he understands the concepts, and gently redirecting him when he does not! You can tell Chris has been a coach! Great enthusiasm!

Thank you Chris!

We couldn't be happier with Chris and are grateful that he replied to our posting so quickly. We had others reply too but he seemed to immediately know that we were looking for more than just a math tutor. We wanted my daughter to prepare properly for SAT testing and he delivered. Chris came in two weeks before my daughter's SAT test. He maximized study time by preparing study materials and homework. He evaluated my daughter's testing techniques and recommended modifications that improved her speed, self-esteem, and overall performance. Chris is very punctual, polite, and extremely patient. Chris will continue to tutor her past her SAT testing because he has also shown great knowledge in Calculus. In a matter of two weeks my daughter's Calculus grade also showed improvement because Chris focused on having her reinforce her basic math.
