As the daughter of a teacher, I have been challenged and motivated to achieve my personal best every day at school.
I work well with students of all ages and use a variety of best teaching practices including visual, auditory and kinetic learning techniques to engage students. I am currently a doctoral student at The Ohio State University working with the Safe Routes to School Program and the communities of Columbus. I have been working closely for many years with schools and related programming such as Americorps and YMCA to help students achieve academic and personal success as well as become self-disciplined learners.
I have been a student for over 20 years, starting from pre-kindergarten and continuing to present-day. I continue to study and learn daily!
Please feel free to send me a message with any questions and/or to schedule an initial consultation to discuss your child's learning needs. As the daughter of a teacher, I have been challenged and motivated to achieve my personal best every day at school.

Katie was very knowledgeable, kind, patient and very nice to me my daughter. My daughter had a very pleasant experience with her. Katie also gave my daughter some confidence as well that she would do well on SAT Test. We will be using her services again and I will also happily refer to any other parent Katie as a tutor for their children.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Accelerated algebra student in high school and college; completed the accelerated pre-algebra, algebra I and II courses in 8th-10th grade; continued on to AP calculus AB and higher courses in statistics at the collegiate level. I have been tutoring high school and college students in algebra for the last three years here in Miami. Students have improved by at least one full letter grade in their courses (live or online).
I am Master's level educated with courses in all subject areas covered in standard elementary curriculum. I studied child development in my undergraduate degree program at the University of Rochester. I was a member of the AmeriCorps Jumpstart program working with Kindergarten students to improve reading, writing and creative thinking skills necessary for success in school. I also have over 8 years' experience as both a tutor (one-on-one instruction) and teaching (group instruction) for grades Pre-k through college.
I have 8 years' experience working with elementary age students on all subjects. I like to use interactive learning games and tools such as flash cards and Play Doh to practice learning skills and improve proficiency. I also incorporate "Mad Minute" worksheets to identify student's strength in individual concept area and to practice individual concepts (for example, student has 1 minute to complete 60 addition problems or 1 minute to write 2 well-formed sentences). My experience has also been with students who have behavioral and other special needs.
