My name is Lori, and I have a lot of experience working with students. I have tutored reading and been a teacher for grades k-8. I have a way to find fun in education by playing different educational games, letting students choose what they want to work on and letting students know that I am there to help them with anything they need. Making sure the that students understand what I am trying to help them with seems to help them be more excepting of the help I am going to provide them.
I got my undergrad degree from Ohio State University in Early Education. I then received my masters at Antioch University in Special Educations. I am a dedicated teacher with the ability to promote active learning in a challenging environment with students who have extra educational needs.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with many students with ADHD and have been able to keep their attention and get them to learn by playing games and finding unique activities for them to do while learning. While working with these students, I find activities that they are interested in, such as animals or dinosaurs. I use that information to make learning fun and exciting. I also find ways for students to be well prepared and organized before working on classwork. For example, one way to do this would be having individual folders for their subjects.
I have worked with students with Autism for the last 12 years. I have worked on everyday skills such as getting dressed, social skills, and social studies. I have also done ABA and tutoring with these students. I have improved the student's ability to work on school work and learn how to accomplish everyday goals.
I have my Intervention Specialist Degree for K-12 grade. I have worked with student K-8 for the last 5 years in reading, math, writing, history and science. I also tutor 1st and 5th graders on reading, writing, and math skills.
I have been working with Special Education students since 2008. I write IEP's and work on the students' IEP goals. I help students master reading, writing, math, behavior and organization goals. I have continuous rapport with the families of these students, so they know how their child is progressing.
