My name is Terrence (Terry). Many years ago I was a teaching assistant and tutor in the chemistry department at The Ohio State University. At this time I would like to re-enter the area of tutoring students at either the high school or undergraduate college level. My areas of expertise are chemistry, physical science and astronomy.
I have degrees in chemistry from The University of Illinois (B.Sc.) and The Ohio State University (M.Sc. and PhD.) and have had a 38+ year career in industrial chemistry.
In industry, most of my career was spent in research and development in the area of organic chemistry. For the last 25 years, as Director of R&D, my duties included teaching and mentoring scores of young scientists, technicians and engineers. Many have gone on to receive advanced degrees or fulfilling positions in chemistry and allied fields.
I'm not ready to retire from life and would like the opportunity to tutor another generation of students. Hello,

Terrance was very reliable and also accommodating with his schedule. I contacted him when I realized I would most likely fail Organic and Biochemistry without help, which was before the first exam. I wound up receiving the highest grade in the class on all three exams and received an A in the class. I give lots of credit to Terrance for helping me accomplish this goal. I highly recommend choosing him as a tutor if you need help with chemistry.
Terrence really helped me understand what I was struggling with at an easy pace! He was very nice and didn't make me feel bad for asking a lot of questions.
Terrence is timely and has flexible hours. Being well prepared with specific questions will work well for him. He answers chemistry questions requiring calculations well and seems to have some challenges with theoretical questions. All in all, he is a great resource when needed.
He was very helpful with explaining difficult concepts and showing me new ways to look at them (for intro to Chemistry course). Very knowledgeable of many topics and I would highly recommend him for any level!
He is very good. He knows the material. He helps my son understand the subject. He takes his time to make sure that my son understands.
We like Terrence and he has been very instrumental in my son's chemistry class. My son was having difficulties with his chemistry class and we have seen a lot of progress in the past months.
Wonderful tutor, patient, knows a lot. If the student has difficulty understanding, Terry will try several approaches to the topic, but he will make sure that your child has a good grasp on subject matter.
Terry is the best organic chemistry tutor I've found in Columbus. He's very helpful and makes things easy to understand. I'd recommend him in a heartbeat!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Columbus,OH area for three years at university level at OSU, CSCC, Ohio Dominican and at HS level (including AP) at most of the suburban schools. With few exceptions, the students I tutored learned the subject well and reached their scholastic goals. Prior to tutoring I spent close to 40 years in the organic chemical industry, mostly in research and development. In R&D, I managed groups of scientists and technicians in the development of methods for preparation and large scale manufacture of organic chemicals. My groups developed processes for making hundreds of substances such as pharmaceuticals, materials for radiology imaging, monomers for contact lenses and a variety of insect pheromones for Eco-friendly control of insects such as the Cotton Boll weevil and the Gypsy moth.
I have tutored Organic chemistry and Biochemistry for more than three years in the Columbus, OH area at both university level (OSU, CSCC, ODC) and high school level (incl AP). With few exceptions, the students I tutored have learned the subject well and reached their scholastic goals for the course.
Prior to tutoring, I spent over 40 years in the Organic chemical industry, mostly in R&D supervising the work of scientists and technicians. My groups were instrumental in developing methods for preparation and large scale manufacture of hundreds of organic chemicals in such varied areas as pharmaceuticals, advanced materials and insect pheromones.
I look forward to tutoring another generation of students interested in learning chemistry.
