About David

Bio

I'm a retired chemistry professor looking to help students. I've published over 200 papers, including many papers in science education, 12 books currently in print (most of them college-level textbooks), and even have a Great Course! My background in physical chemistry means I can tutor chemistry, physics (low-level, at least!), and math (through calculus). Sorry, not so good in biology or biochemistry... Check me out on RateMyProfessors! I might be pricey, but I'm pretty sure I'm worth...

As a (ex-)physical chemistry professor, I know what it's like to struggle with math skills. In fact, two of my books are math review skills for science students!

30+ years of experience and lots of positive feedback from students! Of course, not all students will be satisfied (and some of them blame the instructor, right?), but I have always tried to have a good rapport and understand that job is to bring students up, not beat them down.

I hope I can help! My tutoring philosophy has always been to work myself out of a job - because you don't need help any more! Good luck!

A lot of chemistry requires math, especially algebra, so I've gotten good at it! I even wrote an algebra skills review book for first-year chemistry students that's still in print. I'm certain that I can help with any algebra problems you may have.

I was a chemistry professor for 30+ years before recently retiring. I taught physical chemistry, which combined physics, chemistry, and math through calculus, and I had to teach all aspects of it. I'm especially aware of the math skills needed to be successful in science. I have all the hardware and software I need to work online with students of all levels.

Very knowledgeable tutor

David was very helpful in tutoring my college daughter with pchem. We highly recommend him. He took the time to explain things she needed more assistance with.

Very helpful

He is very knowledgeable about physical chemistry and more importantly, knows it is a subject that needs the math explained with real world examples. He makes the subject a lot less terrifying

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

David is an excellent tutor. He has a true command of the material (Physical Chemistry) and this semester helped me immensely with understanding what otherwise would have been an intimidating subject. It was because of David's help that I was able to get an A on each of my exams as well as homework assignments. I would highly recommend David for Physical Chemistry and related fields.

Extremely knowledgeable

It’s like learning from the professor himself, you couldn’t come up with a P Chem question he can’t answer. Absolute expert in the subject matter and explains material well

Very knowledgeable and patient

He really wants to make sure you understand the material and breaks it down into simpler terms. You can also tell that he is super knowledgeable and skilled in this profession and how’s how to work with students of different levels.

Excellent initial session

David is patient and explains concepts in a clear organized way. I'm looking forward to weekly sessions with David as a supplement to my IB chem class...especially after some of the gaps I experienced during the back and forth of Covid protocols at school.

Knowledgeable and patient teacher

Even from our initial session, he was very nice and kind. He was able to talk me through concept is a thorough and understanding way. He is very knowledgeable about physical chemistry and thermodynamics.

Great tutor!

David was really helpful in explaining the concepts for my physical chemistry course. He was able to make the topics easy to understand and would reexplain a concept if needed! He made me feel a lot more confident of the material we went over! Thank you:)
