About Dr. Brian

Allow me to tell you a little about myself. As a Doctor of Medicine, I have received extensive education in many subject areas and have had to score well on countless standardized examinations, including the SAT, the MCAT, as well as the three parts of the United States Medical Licensing exam (USMLE I, II, and III). Knowing from an early age that I wanted to become a doctor, my emphasis was always on the sciences, but the curriculum of a pre-medical student is very well rounded, to include calculus, theology, philosophy, arts, foreign language, english, and history. My over 20 years of education have given me not only the knowledge necessary to be a successful doctor, but those years have given me the tools by which I have developed a systematic, focused approach to learning any new subject.

If you are struggling in any of the subjects mentioned in my profile, or just want to improve your grades, please contact me so we can set up a tutoring program that can help you achieve your goals! I will begin by helping you master the skills necessary to approach any subjective with a methodical and disciplined approach. I am a firm believer in learning can be fun, and it is my goal to help you enjoy the learning process. Rather than be afraid of the subject matter you may be struggling with, I hope to teach you that once you start to conquer a subject it is no longer as frightening as it may have once been. In fact, you may begin to actually look forward to the lessons!

I have always enjoyed teaching and tutoring. Throughout my high school years I was a teacher's aid in Spanish for all 4 years. I student A.P Chemistry, A.P Physics, A.P History, and A.P English in high school, spending spare time in extracurricular activities and tutoring fellow students in math, sciences, and english. On Sundays I volunteered at a local elementary school teaching biblical studies to public school students.

In college I kept my tradition of teaching of tutoring students who were struggling, particularly in math and all of the sciences. One of the greatest feelings on earth, aside from helping to save the life of a human being as a medical doctor, is teaching. Teaching and tutoring is an incredibly rewarding activity which has the ability to make a difference in a young person's life and forever change the course of their dreams.

Having done well with the rigorous course load I chose in high school, my grades gained me acceptance into Georgetown University, one of the most competitive schools in the country. I majored in Chemistry at Georgetown University, and after 4 years received my Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry.

After I graduated from Georgetown as an undergrad, I did 4 years of cancer research at the Lombardi Cancer Center in Washington DC. It cemented my desire to go into the medical field, and once accepted into medical school at Georgetown, I further expanded upon my solid scientific math and science education by learning physiology, pharmacology, more extensive biochemistry, as well as physiology, and anatomy, to name just a few.

I am a firm believer in that you can never set the goal too high. You can achieve anything you set your mind to. Maintaining a positive outlook on your learning experiences will always help you in the long run. Remember, learning is a life-long process. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

So please contact me! Together we will build a Tutoring Program that accomplishes your goals!

NOTE: Quality service and high teaching standards are important, so please provide feedback to me and to Wyzant on your tutoring experience. I want to meet (and exceed) your expectations! Your feedback helps to improve lesson plans and training drills for future tutoring sessions.

CANCELLATIONS: Please observe my 24-hour Cancellation Policy. If you must miss a scheduled session please notify me 24 hours in advance and I will attempt to offer a make-up class when or if possible.

Thank you for your interest and I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I was raised Catholic. I spent all of my education in Catholic schools, from first grade through medical school. All of my schooling was through Catholic institutions. My family also attended Church regularly, and I served as an Altar Server for over 6 years for our local parish. I also taught Catechism to 5th grade public school students on Sundays for 2 years when I was in High School.

Genetics

Genetics is a subject thoroughly studied in medical school. The first 2 years of medical school I spent learning Genetics and the basis for life, disease processes, etc. You must be competent in genetics to graduate from medical school.

MCAT

In order to gain acceptance into medical school I had to take the MCAT examination. Therefore I am very family with it and what one must do in order to tackle such standardized examinations.

Nutrition

One of the courses I had to take in Medical School was nutrition. As doctors we have to be aware of how intricately tied to the health and well-being, along with genetics and environment, is proper nutrition.

Organic Chemistry

As a chemistry major in college, and as pre-medical student, I had to take extensive courses and master the material involved with organic chemistry. It is the most fundamental towards the study of medicine of the chemistries (and therefore a pre-requisite for getting into medical school)

Pharmacology

Pharmacology was a year long course my second year of medical school. We must become competent in not only the long list of medication out there for human consumption, both over the counter, and prescribed, but we have to have extensive knowledge of how the human body metabolizes those pharmaceutical agents (half-life, main routes of excretion, etc).
