I specialize in helping students with medical and graduate school applications, scientific/academic writing and test prep. With 4+ years of tutoring experience, I am knowledgeable in a wide range of academic subjects and enjoy planning lessons that target each student's specific goals and learning style.

As a current medical student with a 98th percentile MCAT score, I have a wealth of experience with med school applications and can help you with every stage of the application process, from planning your extracurriculars and study schedule, to MCAT prep, editing application essays, and finally preparing for interviews. The med school application process is competitive, so beyond simply completing the prerequisites, it is important to present yourself in the best way possible to an admissions committee. I can help you put together an application that plays to your strengths and helps you put your best foot forward.

I additionally work with students applying to graduate programs and jobs in engineering, STEM, social sciences, and business, with many successes to date. My career so far has taken me interesting places, from finance/economics and medical interpreting to public speaking coaching at the university level and informatics research that resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications. I draw on this wealth of knowledge, and more, when helping my students plan their own careers.

Having grown up bilingual and studied a few more languages along the way, I also have extensive experience with language learning for non-native speakers and am happy to work with students looking to improve their English or prepare for TOEFL.

I look forward to working with you. Let me know how I can best help you!

Logical and Understanding Tutor!

During our tutoring sessions for MCAT CARS, Maya was very informative and explained the thought process and reasoning for choosing each answer in immense detail. Maya helped me improve the way I think about questions, and about the reading passages in general. Maya is also very open to hearing students' perspectives on why they choose different (incorrect) answer choices. We developed CARS test-taking strategies together, and Maya was always open to feedback about whether or not the explanations made sense.

Clear explanations, calm, and encouraging

Maya and I went over questions that I had from this past week. She took the questions I sent her and came to our session with diagrams and explanations ready. She makes sure to ask about my thought processes and approach to the problem and then helps guide me to a new approach that may help me get to the correct answer when I approach a similar question in the future.

Effective and encouraging teacher!

Before working with Maya, I thought there was no hope in improving my MCAT CARS score. However, within a couple of lessons, Maya helped me find a new strategy that made a huge difference in my confidence and performance. She gave me several useful tips and approached every lesson with patience and positivity. Talking through CARS passages with Maya helped me learn to read effectively, reason through questions, and choose the most correct answers. I am extremely grateful that I got to work with Maya and I attribute much of my improvement to her teaching.

A kind and intelligent tutor

Maya is an incredible tutor who has been very effective at helping me continue to study Russian. She puts up with my constant barrage of questions as well as my frequent moments of stupidity; a herculean task indeed. She always has interesting lessons planned and is happy to go over any topics you have questions about. If you are looking to learn Russian or continue it, Maya is more than capable of helping you.

Maya is a helpful tutor and application advisor!

Maya is a really patient and helpful tutor. We did some interview practice and she addressed a lot of my questions regarding medical school, either about the application, work-life balance or financial aspect. She also practices English grammar and oral speaking with me, and I found it really helpful.
