About Ferenc

I am a recent graduate from The Ohio State University. I graduated with a major in Chinese and a minor in Linguistics. I was initially majoring in Linguistics, so I have extensive background in the field. Most of my studies and research in my undergraduate was focused in language acquisition.

Before transferring to OSU, I studied graphic design and vocal performance at Cuyahoga Community College. I have been freelancing graphic design for about 5 years and have been using graphic design programs for over a decade. I have portfolio work available for preview as requested. In anticipation for transferring to a 4 year university, I changed my major to a general associate of the Arts to allow me to pursue a broader range of general education courses. I continued my humanities studies in vocal performance for the 2 years before transferring to OSU. While at OSU I gave private voice lessons.

I have recently moved back to the Cleveland area and am seeking more opportunities to teach/tutor. I have already been tutoring Mandarin Chinese for a few months and had taught vocal techniques to an A Capella group during the past year.

I am currently looking for work with flexible hours that I am not contracted to primarily because I plan to attend graduate school next year, in the Fall of 2017.

OSU has one of the nation's best Chinese language programs. I studied Mandarin up through advanced tier, year 1 at the school and am well equipped and motivated to self study for further improvement and fluency. I also have background in Classical Chinese which has helped to augment my understanding of the language and its origins. I have been praised for my talent within the language and my almost native sounding accent. I have taken several courses and even assisted research in language acquisition, specifically pertaining to Mandarin Chinese. In my own Mandarin studies, I focused my learning of the language through Traditional Characters, but am also very familiar with Simplified as well. Because of my background, I am well equipped to present the information in a comprehensive manner to my students in a variety of ways to suit their needs.

Even though my first language during the formative years was Hungarian, I speak English at native level fluency. Because of my previously mentioned background in language acquisition and linguistics, I have a deep understanding of how English works as a foreign language.

As for ACT prep, I have had several opportunities and ample coursework in essay writing, and strategies. I have tutored several of my friends while at OSU in essay writing techniques. I have taken the ACT myself and know what is expected for the exam.

Because of personal reasons, I withdrew from high school during my Senior year and pursued my GED. At the learning center, I was praised for having the highest GED test assessment score they had seen in a decade. I immediately scheduled my GED exams and passed with above average scores in each category, except reading comprehension, where I scored average.

I spent 7 years on my undergraduate degree. The major reason for that was because I transferred from a community college to a University. As such I not only have quite a bit of experience within the realm of undergraduate schooling, I also have experience with transferring colleges. I have advised many people on different strategies for pursuing higher education, and even have experience with study abroad.

Please do not hesitate to message me regarding lessons! I prefer being contacted by email. I check my emails daily and do my best to respond within 24 hours. If you plan to contact by phone number, I would much prefer you text me with your full name and the purpose of your contact. If texting is not an option, I will most likely not answer my phone for unrecognized phone numbers. As such, simply please leave a voicemail with your full name, number and the purpose of your call.

I always schedule an initial consultation before proceeding to beginning lessons. This can be anything from discussing an outline of what you/the student would like to learn, or even a free trial lesson.

The price I have listed currently is based on the commission rates charged through Wyzant, however I am willing to negotiate.

If you have any questions about anything, do not hesitate to contact me and ask! I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

While at OSU, I initially majored in Linguistics, therefore, I have extensive coursework and background in the Linguistics realm of anthropology. The other 3 sub-fields I have very minimal experience in.

Chinese

OSU has one of the nation's best Chinese language programs. I earned my Bachelor's of Arts in Chinese and studied Mandarin up through advanced tier, year 1 (equivalent to 4 years of study) at OSU and am well equipped and motivated to self study for further improvement and fluency. I also have background in Classical Chinese which has helped to augment my understanding of the language and its origins. I have been praised for my talent within the language and my almost native sounding accent. I have taken several courses and even assisted research in language acquisition, specifically pertaining to Mandarin Chinese. Drawing

I have been drawing and using computer graphics programs for more than a decade. I studied graphic design for two years during my undergrad, which included several drawing courses.

Graphic Design

I have been using graphic design programs for over 10 years and am primarily self taught. I studied graphic design for 2 years at Cuyahoga Community College and am very familiar with adobe programs as well as other graphic design programs, such as Jasc Paintshop Pro7 (Now Corell). I have been doing freelance graphic design for 5 years now, and had been graphic design chair for 2 years for a student organization at OSU.

Nutrition

While I am not a certified expert, I have been studying and researching proper nutrition and diet for nearly a decade, which includes human nutrition, food science, and vegetarian eating. I have learned methods from both eastern cultures and western cultures.
I was motivated to improve my own diet towards a healthy lifestyle by a number of factors, including family history of diabetes, heart disease, substance abuse, smoking, obesity, unbalanced metabolism, and acne.
Using the tips and tricks I have learned over the last 7+ years, I can guide you towards better nutrition, which will lead you to a healthier, happier life.

Voice (Music)

During my undergrad, I studied music for four consecutive years, with the latter two focused in vocal performance. During all four years, I was an active member of the choral and served as President of the Music Club for a year. During my third year, I participated in "Project Gilgamesh" which gave me dozens of hours of studio recording experience. Since then, I have been giving voice lessons. I had also taught vocal techniques to an A Capella group for the 2015-2016 academic year.
