About Hallie

After I graduated college, I spent a year as a secondary school English and reading teacher in Guyana, South America. When I returned home, I joined the Ohio Reading Corps and provided literacy tutoring to grades K-3. I'm looking for part time tutoring job in the evenings that I can attend after my day job. I love Kindergarten and first grade! A strong foundation in these grades is especially important going forward in a child's education.

This past year, I provided evidence-based early literacy intervention to small groups of Kindergartners at risk of falling behind grade level benchmarks. I believe in using reading interventions that are research based, but that doesn't mean they don't have to be fun!

I took flute lessons from fourth grade until I graduated high school. I still play for fun and have a passion for music!

I am currently pursuing a PhD in school psychology, and have worked with special education populations. I have also worked at a behavioral treatment summer program for children with ADHD, and would love to tell you more about that!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am pursuing a doctorate in school psychology and currently work with special education populations, including students diagnosed with ADHD or a learning disability. I have taken a child psychopathology class, which included coursework on the classification and diagnosis of ADHD. Other coursework includes academic assessment and intervention, in which I learned about interventions targeted at students with ADHD. I have also worked as an undergraduate counselor for the Cleveland Clinic Summer Treatment Program for children with ADHD. This is a behavioral treatment program for children with ADHD based on the principles of behavior analysis and is an evidence-based treatment option with a strong research base for children diagnosed with ADHD. I am returning to the camp this summer as Lead Classroom Teacher.

Flute

I started playing the flute in fourth grade, and received weekly lessons until I graduated from high school. I competed in several solo competitions and emerged with scores of 1 (the highest score possible). In addition to my school's wind ensemble and marching band, I was a member of the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony during my junior and senior years of high school. I traveled with the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony to France, Italy, and Spain to play a series of international concerts during my junior year. I still play the flute in my spare time.
