Teaching is something I love to do because of my awareness of how much it can impact someone's life. One of my passions involves volunteering on average 70 hours each month to teach the Bible to people in a one-on-one setting in my community. I am currently enrolled in a weekly class that allows me to keep my teaching skills current. I enjoy seeing people's reactions when something that was once complex is put in simple terms and they now can understand it.
I love Math!!! I also love helping others see why there is no need to be afraid of Math and to embrace the logic behind it. I want my students to see that Math is not about memorizing but about a way of thinking that can be developed. My field of study in college allowed me to develop my love for Math. I took Math classes up to Calculus 4. In fact, while in college, I worked as a teacher assistant grading papers and tutoring students.
I am originally from Cameroon in West Africa which makes me a native french speaker. However, I understand the struggles related to learning a new language as I had a learn one myself: English. I incorporate the lessons learned from my personal experience in my teaching. Additionally, I have taken a course in the techniques of teaching languages in a way that keeps the student engaged and motivated. My favorite student, my wife who is American, was practically fluent in less than a year and half of casual learning.
Teaching is not about how much one knows but about one's ability to put the most difficult concepts into simple segments that can be understood without overwhelming the students. That is what I strive for. Please feel free to contact me for a free consultation. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
