About Hannah

In my last year of college I worked as a Learning Community Leader guiding freshman anthropology students through their first semester by introducing new anthropological concepts and the basics of college life. The following semester I led a lab workshop for the introduction to biological anthropology course. I learned how to teach and empower students to learn.
These experiences made me realize how much I really, truly enjoy teaching. I love the look on a student's face when they discover something new or find the answer they were looking for. Now I'd like to continue to gain more experience in helping people learn by becoming a tutor.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Anthropology through which I focused on biological anthropology. I studied the human skeleton, evolution, medical beliefs, and infectious diseases. In my last semester I completed two independent projects - one analyzing a prehistoric skeleton, and another analyzing causes of death and how they related to access to medical care. I can help students understand human biology, culture, and evolution through a variety of hands on activities or discussions.

After learning Spanish throughout school, I decided to complete a Spanish degree while at college. Not only did I study Spanish creative writing and literature, but I completed a study abroad program in Merida, Mexico. I graduated and have a OPI certified proficiency of Intermediate High. I could easily help with introductory grammar and vocabulary for students taking high school or college level Spanish.

Both of my majors and my minor in History required me to read, write, and analyze literature every week. I am a meticulous proofreader and enjoy looking over papers, cover letters, and goal statements for my friends. I would be happy to help look over papers or discuss a book with a student when needed.

I try to be flexible with time but I do have a job during the day that will be my first priority. I plan to meet students in public but quiet spaces such as the local library or a coffeeshop to go over anything they need to.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ohio University with a B.A. in Anthropology. I also assisted in teaching a anthropology-centric learning community as well as a biological anthropology introductory lab workshop.

Archaeology

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. degree in Anthropology which included a requirement in the subfield of Archaeology. In addition to completing the courses required I also did independent work in the archaeology lab reconstructing and analyzing a prehistoric skeleton.

Ballet

I started taking ballet classes when I was 4 years old, now at 22 I have danced for 18 years. When I was 17 I had lead roles in 2 simultaneously run productions of the Nutcracker. In the production ran by my studio I was the Sugar Plum Fairy, and in the other production presented by a non-profit I was the lead Arabian dancer. In college I went on to dance for 2 years on the Ohio University dance team, and was accepted into the school's dance minor program.

Spanish

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Spanish from Ohio University this past May. I began studying Spanish when I was 9 and became fluent while living abroad in Mexico. I have studied everything from Spanish creative writing to art history and now have a very broad vocabulary and great understanding of grammar.
