Kent State University (PhD)
Hi my name is Jim.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Education with honors in 1973 from Kent State University. My major was Comprehensive Science and my minor was Mathematics. Subsequently, I taught General Mathematics, General Science, Chemistry, Physics and Introductory Physical Science. After four years of teaching in the public school system, I returned to Kent State University where I received my Masters of Science in Ecology in 1981. The core curriculum for Ecology included courses in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry as well as Systems Ecology (an engineering approach to Ecology) which broadened the breadth and depth of my science background. As part of my degree requirements, I taught a variety of student laboratories including dissection laboratories as well as structure and function laboratories. Upon completion of my Master’s degree, I enrolled in the doctoral program in Cell and Molecular Biology at Northeast Ohio Medical University. The core curriculum included courses in cell biology, molecular biology, histology and biochemistry. In addition, I taught microscopic anatomy laboratories for the medical students. Upon graduation, I continued to teach microscopic anatomy laboratories for several years at both Northeast Ohio Medical University and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. The underlying thread of my entire career has been mentoring and teaching students biological sciences, scientific writing and research methods. I have been retired for almost two years and I find that what I miss most from my career is teaching. Therefore, I am beginning to tutor.
I have taught Biology and other science courses to junior high students, high school students, college undergraduate and graduate students and medical students. With that experience, I have encountered and successfully overcome almost every learning difficulty a student may have. By working together, I am certain that you will successfully master your learning objectives and attain your future goals in science.
I look forward to meeting you so that I can help you improve your academic standing and confidence and nuture your natural abilities. Hi my name is Jim.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to my high school teaching experience, I was a research scientist for over 20 years. During that time, I taught Biological Sciences to undergraduates, graduate students, medical students and residents. Therefore, I have taught Biology to students with a wide variety of learning skills.
