Thank you for reading my profile. I am currently an 8th grade English teacher in our area. I have taught at my current school for 11 years. I have been identified as an "Accomplished" teacher by the administrators at my school. This is the highest ranking a teacher can receive in Ohio. I have also been ranked "Most Effective" by the State of Ohio based on my most recent test scores. I am the Department Chair of English in my building, and I have also taught 6th and 7th grade English and 6th grade social studies. I'm certified to teach grades 4-9 in English and social studies and also have a K-12 Reading Endorsement.
I have been an Intervention Specialist where I worked with individual students or small groups of students to help them reach their learning goals based on their IEPs. I teach all levels of learning abilities from special education to advanced with a wide variety of proven methods that provide differentiated instruction for all of my students.
I feel that it is very important to learn about a student's specific interests so I can connect what they need to learn to something they are interested in. Building confidence is a necessary part of the learning process. When a student is able to apply what they learn to something they're interested in, it builds their confidence and makes learning more important to them.
I remember being a student, and I was bored. That's the last thing I want any of my students to be. As a hobby, I study adolescent brain development. I know what makes kids tick and I use many different methods to motivate them. Some kids need to get up and move around so we might get up and take a quick walk. Some kids might need total silence in order to concentrate. I try to provide whatever my student needs in order to achieve their goals. I wish you the best in your search to find the right tutor for your child. Thank you for reading my profile. I am currently an 8th grade English teacher in our area. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
