About Jill

Over the past twelve I have used my extensive experience to teach and inspire children. I have taught students in all content areas from K-8. My experience in teaching covers Pre-k, kindergarten, first, second, and math intervention for grades K-8. I am currently completing the Master's program for Early Childhood Education with a GPA of 4.0. I have provided instruction using strategies that give learners confidence and challenge them to grow in areas needing support. I teach in ways that increase student's chances of success and academic achievement.

I specialize in elementary K-6 content areas, especially math and reading. For example, in all subject areas, I encourage active learning, with engaging; developmentally appropriate lessons that motivate students to a deep learning. The lessons are individualized for each student according to their needs. Each lesson is planned to include demonstration of the the subject skill and and guidance for the students to acquire the specific skill. For example, we may work on basic reading skills, word study, comprehension, or writing skills. In math, we will use concrete manipulation, modeling, and progress to solving problems using paper and pencil. Homework will be assigned that aligns closely with instruction. Homework will be for independent practice to obtain proficiency for what is learned. Assessments and progress reports will be done periodically and shared with students and parents.

If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment, please notify me at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. If that is not possible, please let me know as soon as possible, but no later than 4 hours before the scheduled tutoring time.

Cancellation

-If a student calls to cancel or reschedule an appointment less than 4 hours before the scheduled appointment time, the student's name will be considered a No-Show.” After two "No Shows", another student may fill their tutoring slot. They may have to arrange for another day or time or possibly be placed on a waiting list. If a student has more than two “No Shows,” with no phone calls, they will no longer be considered as a part of the program.

Learning Disability and Special needs - I am not a special education specialist, but I have had experience working with exceptional students. I am willing to accept and work with these children.

I look forward to hearing from you and working with you on your achievement goals.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

As a professional educator I have taught Common Core for the past two years since the adoption by the state of Ohio. I have used the ODE state approved Common Core standards and used their scope and sequence as a guide for teaching. In addition, I have used the adopted Common Core curriculum for each content are for language arts, math, science, and social studies. In my experience as a tutor for third and fifth-sixth grade math, I have used the Common Core standards as a guide for creating specialized tutoring lessons.

They know now that math can be fun and that they can do actually be successful in math. My varied and hands on methods have been tailored to suit their needs. In addition, I have taught math intervention for K-8.
