I am a retired teacher and school administrator. I have worked as a professional educator throughout my career and I have 35+ years of experience teaching languages (French), and ESL including accent reduction training. I have worked successfully with students of all ages, from Kindergarten through adults at the university and corporate level. I have taught test preparation (ACT and SAT), business courses, as well as courses in leadership and management. In addition to teaching many academic subjects, I have also taught chess to students in grades K-8.
I love working one on one with students and I approach each student as an individual with specific needs. Therefore, I will always tailor each and every tutoring session based on the need of each student. I have a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education, and much more coursework beyond the master's degree.

I have know James for several years at our local Parma Chess club. I did not know that James taught chess. The first thing we did was to play a game of chess to review my strength and weakness. He attempted to teach me how to count the pieces on the board and what pieces were under attack. Where there other pieces protecting those pieces. Look for open files and diagonal for the rooks, bishops, Queen. Look for good moves and find a the best movie. Look for hanging pieces. Suggested playing live chess a move a day.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a member of the United States Chess Federation and currently have a rating of over 1600 which puts me above the 80th percentile of chess players. I am an experienced tournament player and a tournament director. I also teach chess to K-12 students through an organization called Progress with Chess.
I have many years experience teaching ESL in both formal and informal settings. Some of my past experience with ESL include working with Berlitz, which is one of the world's oldest and most trusted language schools. I have taught students from K-12 to adult learners in both university and corporate settings.
I have a bachelor's degree in French and have many years of teaching experience at the K-12 level and as a tutor at the college level. I have also worked as a freelance translator in a variety of subjects. I use French everyday in my daily life and I am able to teach French to anyone with a desire to learn.
