About Keri

I currently work full time teaching American Sign Language I as a foreign language to high school students grades 9-12. I also taught ASL levels I, II, III and IV at several high schools in New York as well as at a college. This is now my eighth year teaching ASL. I am certified to teach ASL at the secondary level in New York, New Jersey and Ohio.

I was born profoundly Deaf. As a result of my oral communication skills, I received a mainstream education. I learned ASL as a second language in my late teens. Only then was I able to immerse myself in the Deaf community. ASL has had a profound impact on me, both socially and culturally. Traveling seamlessly between both the hearing and Deaf communities, I understand the frustration and subtleties of communication differences. As an oral Deaf instructor, I not only teach ASL, I also teach tolerance and understanding to my students. ASL is not only my second language, but it is my passion.

I am confident that my background, qualifications and dedication will prove to be what you need in your tutoring sessions.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
