University of Phoenix (MBA)
I have an MBA from University of Phoenix and a degree in Journalism from Kent State University. I am a journalist with more than 20 years of experience and an educator who works to empower youth by building confidence to help them succeed. I have worked as a substitute teacher in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District for about two years. I typically accept assignments as a media specialist, a reading intervention specialist or as an English teacher. I worked in a long-term assignment as an English instructor at Ginn Academy in Cleveland, Ohio, and empowered more than 60 young men in the 9th and 10th grades. Writing and reading skills improved during my tenure. Additionally, I have assisted college students with research papers and writing assignments. I am also an author of two books about relationship issues; I have also proofread manuscripts for other authors.

I love developing solid skills -- reading, writing, public speaking -- that will help my students be successful in life. While I have a straight-forward style, I am compassionate and understanding. I will push you, but I will celebrate you, too!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have served as an English substitute teacher, and I enjoy reviewing the proper use of this great language. I also use many creative strategies to make it fun.

I have taught reading intervention for about two years. I work with many elementary school students to help them learn how to read, write and spell. Additionally, I have a bachelor of science in journalism.
I am a writer and an editor. I have a great eye for details, and I often catch errors that are overlooked on signage and in TV news banners.
I am qualified to tutor reading because I like to go step-by-step to help students improve their comprehension levels. We will read for understanding, not for speed.
