In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took the MCAT in July 2012. I received a score in the 98-99th percentile. I self-studied for the MCAT during the summer, so I can help students who are self-studying by pointing them in the right direction and helping them focus on the important topics. Also, since I took the MCAT recently, I know the test format and the test day schedule. Additionally, I received all As in college in the premed courses (biology, physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry and their corresponding laboratories.) Moreover, I was invited to interview at 11 medical schools, and my MCAT score definitely played a role in getting some of the interviews.
