I offer individual and group tutoring that is based on the State of Ohio Educational Standards. I offer both pre and post assessments and parents will receive ongoing progress reports on their child. I hold a license in Special Education, therefore I am proficient in working with students with special needs. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Reading

The students will learn how to process and apply what has been read. They will learn how to read questions and answer what has been asked. The students will learn how to answer multiple choice, short and extended questions. They will also learn how to answer essay questions. I hold a license in Special Education, and I hold a Master of Education Degree.

ADD/ADHD

I hold a license in Special Education, Lessons will be chunked with frequent breaks. Lessons will be scaffolded so that the student is familiar with what is being presented to him or her.

English

The students will have a pre-assessment so I can identify their area of need that we should focus on. In English these are some of the areas that can be presented:

•Reading
o Phonics
o Vocabulary
o Informational text
o Persuasive text
o Literary text
o Identify character, plot, setting
o Comprehension and fluency
o Self-monitoring skills
o Distinguish between different types of text

•Writing
o Application – ability to generate ideas and identify the topic
o Produce grammatically structured writing
o Use of proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar
o Revise writing

•Research
o Identify and produce open-ended questions to research
o Identify creditable data and sources
o Organize information
o Document sources used to avoid plagiarism

Grammar

Students will be able to apply the rules of grammar and be able to apply those rules automatically in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They will receive declarative knowledge, the knowledge about a subject and being able to describe the rule. The they will then apply procedural knowledge, their knowledge of knowing how to apply the rule they have learned.

Reading

The students will have a pre-assessment so I can identify their area of weakness that we need to focus on. In reading all of the following areas can be presented:

•Phonemic Awareness, Word Recognition and Fluency

•Acquisition of Vocabulary

•Concepts of Print, Comprehension Strategies & Self-Monitoring Strategies

•Identifying and distinguishing between Informational Technical and Persuasive Text

•Identifying and understanding Literary Text

Special Needs

I have a license in Special Education. The students will be tutored following their IEP or SP that is provided by their school. The sessions will following the student's abilities and current school work.

•Use affixes and roots to determine meaning of new words.
