About Aaron

Bio

I am a Nerd.

As such, I love learning new things. I am also outgoing, and as such, I like sharing the things I have learned with others. I've been doing both for as long as I have been alive, and I shall continue doing these things for as long as I am alive. I shan't be stopped! I can't stop. For to stop, would be to die.

Alright, that got a little morbid, but seriously, I live off of acquiring and sharing knowledge. That's why I am a scientist and why I am an educator. I have...

I have taught/tutored in formal settings ever since I was an undergraduate in college. And, when I temporarily left graduate school to settle some serious health issues, I joined the staff of the Cincinnati Observatory where I honed my skills teaching informally as well. Now, I do both! I am an adjunct instructor at the University of Cincinnati and one of the Observatory's "key" volunteers (because I literally have a key to the place--get it?)

Currently, I am making my way back into graduate school to finish my Ph.D. in physics. But along the way, because adjuncts don't make any money, I find myself in need of supplemental income. (After all, I've got medical bills to pay...) So, I figure why not try to monetize a thing I do already--acquiring knowledge and helping others acquire it, too?!

Because charging folks for something that I happily do for free makes me feel kinda bad, to be perfectly honest. But alas, I do need help, and presumably, you do too, and at the end of the day, I see little ill in arranging a mutually beneficial partnership. I, for one, will be forever grateful.

Thanks!

I majored in math as an undergraduate, alongside physics, and as a physicist, it is required of me that I be fluent in the language of the Cosmos, which just so happens to be mathematics. So, I am fairly confident that I can help with algebra, calculus, etc.

Again, I am a physicist. I have a Master of Science degree in physics, and I have taught/am teaching physics at Miami University, the University of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky University, and West Clermont High School. So, I can help you learn physics, too.

As for astronomy, believe it or not, I have only ever taken one astronomy class in college, and even that was actually "astrophysics." But, some of my earliest memories are stargazing in the backyard with my dad, and I have been a stargazer/amateur astronomer ever since. When I was eight, I decided I was going to be an astronaut. Consequently, I read every single book I could find on astronomy and space exploration, and I never stopped. (Nor have I stopped my decision to become an astronaut!) Thus, my knowledge of astronomy is quite vast--certainly enough for me to, as I have already mentioned, join the staff of the Cincinnati Observatory, where we use giant telescopes to study the heavens--not to be confused with the Krohn Conservatory, where they cultivate and show plants, nor the old planetarium that used to be on Gilbert Avenue, where they projected an artificial sky onto a domed ceiling. I say all this because experience shows those things frequently come to mind when folks hear "observatory." Additionally, I cannot interpret anyone's horoscope. But I certainly can help with astronomy--and give a tour of the Observatory--and provide a "tour of the Universe" with my telescope at a star party.

If you are intrigued and interested in learning more, don't hesitate to reach out! My current schedule is quite flexible, and so I can easily work around yours. I can meet online or in-person at your home or any of the many coffee shops around town, or just about anywhere else you would like. Just let me know!

Cheers,

Aaron

I've been stargazing for as long as I can remember. When I was eight, I decided I was going to become an astronaut, and so I read every book I could find on astronomy and space exploration. Now I'm a professional physicist and amateur astronomer (still working on becoming an astronaut) and a science educator at the Cincinnati Observatory. So even though I'm astronomically self-educated, I know more about the topic than most people, and if you ever find yourself in Cincinnati, I will happily give you a tour of the birthplace of American astronomy.

Patient and enthusiastic about math

Aaron has worked with my son on geometry. My son says that he’s a good tutor, and he enjoys working with him. Geometry has not been his favorite math, but Aaron has helped him understand it better and have a more positive attitude towards the class.

Helpful Teacher

Aaron is a really good teacher that helps my nerves when it comes to math. Looking forward to more classes together. We covered calculus and science and he knew how to break down both subject matters to make it easier for me to understand.
