About Olivia

My passion for tutoring comes from a lifetime fulfillment from learning. I have been an avid bookworm since 7th grade, which has opened up an extensive world of complex vocabulary and cultural ideas. Reading has taught me to think of topics through different perspectives and has promoted compassion for all types of personalities and cultures.

This skill helps me relate with you, regardless of your background or skill set. My Reading score on the ACT was 31, 10 points higher than the national average. This demonstrates my intellectual capacity to tutor Vocabulary and Reading Skills.

In high school, I had an amazing Spanish teacher who opened up my eyes to learning about foreign cultures and traditions. This early influence turned into a personal goal of becoming multilingual and exploring the world. I have taken 3 semesters worth of Italian language and 4 years worth of Spanish culture classes at The Ohio State University, where I graduated cum laude in May 2016 with a 3.6 GPA. In the past two years, I have traveled to 8 countries which gave me invaluable knowledge of common dialectical phrases and about foreign culture.

Along with helping my younger siblings with homework, I have formally tutored for about a year now. I have privately tutored high school students with Spanish vocabulary and helped them prepare for upcoming tests. I was also a Teacher's Assistant for a Latino after school program, helping elementary children complete homework. One of my goals as a tutor is to promote bilingual learning, a skill which will assuredly help you succeed in the future.

Last year, I was an ESL teaching assistant for two months. This experience showed me common obstacles for students who learning English as a Second Language and how to move past them to succeed. I have spent a total of 4 months in Spanish-speaking countries including Spain, Honduras, and Nicaragua. My formal knowledge of Spanish comes from 8 years of instruction in high school and at The Ohio State University as my major.

In college, I also took 3 semesters worth of Italian language classes, which I found very similar to Spanish. I also spent a week in Florence and Rome, Italy this past year. As you can see, various experiences throughout my life have prepared me to become an effective tutor. I like to take into account different learning styles, be compassionate to several types of personalities, and address any concerns my students may have about learning. If you want to learn the second-most widely used language in the entire world, set up a session with me to begin your journey!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
