I always liked learning, both while I was in school and as an adult. And I noticed that when I learned something, I liked to tell others what I learned. The excitement of figuring something out just made me want to share it. Now that I teach, I get to see that excitement in my students. The look of realization on students' faces as they understand a new idea never gets old.

I liked studying, and did pretty well in school. I believe I can use some of my experiences in learning to help students not only get more correct answers on tests (always a nice goal), but also to really understand concepts and ideas so learning gets easier, with less memorization. For me, that is the real purpose of education. If you have a good understanding of concepts and ideas, and can express yourself well, good grades will follow naturally.

I took every course my high school had in math, and I did very well. This was important, as I went to college to study engineering, where math understanding is extremely important. My math scores on the college entrance tests (I took both SAT and ACT) were in the 95%+ percentile range. Rest assured, I can help you with math.

Years ago, I went to China to teach English. I taught for two years at two Chinese universities, then came back to Ohio. I enjoyed it so much I went on to get a TESOL certificate so I could learn how to teach ESL even better. During that time, I was sent by my college to Japan to teach English for a few months. These experiences are a large part of why I now teach all the time, instead of doing engineering work. After getting the TESOL certificate, I went back to China and taught several more years.

A few years ago I returned to college after having been an engineer. I decided to study business, and received an MBA. I received an MBA in Supply Chain Management and International Business from Wright State University. Further, while there, I was a Graduate Assistant to several marketing professors. So I learned not only business, but how to teach business. As a result, w

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Knowledge of algebra allows us to set up problems to be solved, and is a basic math skill required for higher education in the sciences. I did extremely well in algebra in high school, and went on to continually use algebra methods during my times studying engineering in college. Further, My daughter and I just finished working through algebra together last year; we both enjoyed it, and she did great too!
Chemistry,

Chemistry

Chemistry is a subject I have studied for many years. I did very well in my two years of high school chemistry, which allowed me to get As in first-year chemistry in college. As a chemical engineering student, a basic knowledge of chemistry was very much a requirement. I continued to use chemistry as a practicing engineer for many years, and I still like to read news articles about chemical-related topics.

Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry is important not only to help in understanding more advanced math topics, but also because it is used in everyday life. I did well in my geometry course in high school, and that was important to my engineering career later. I continue to use the basic principles I learned in geometry to understand and set up solutions to problems I find in life.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

As the name implies, prealgebra is learned before algebra; it lays the foundation for what follows. I excelled in algebra when I was in school, and I have used the basics of algebra (what prealgebra is) many times since, both in college and in my career. Also, I helped my daughter get through prealgebra two years ago. She aced it.
